Quick 24 Hours in Seattle vlog – and yes there’s ferry boats, coffee, and TROLLS!

Last weekend my friend and I decided to take a short little trip to Seattle, WA. The joy about living in Portland, OR is that Seattle is just 3ish hours way. Unfortunately, I still don’t get up there as much as I’d like to.

We started the trip Sunday morning and the weather and traffic were so easy and we made it to downtown Seattle around 1pm. Once we were settled into our hotel we headed out for coffee and then to visit Pike’s Place Market.

The day was absolutely beautiful, nearly 70 and sunny. Don’t believe the lies people tell you that it always rains in the PNW. When it’s nice — it’s really nice.

After walking through Pike’s Place Market we went down to Gum Alley — a spot I had no desire to see but there’s a good coffee shop — Ghost Alley Espresso — down there we wanted to get another coffee at. Sadly, they were randomly closed even though it was during their posted hours time.

From here we headed to Pike’s Place Chowder to grab lunch. I had lunch here back in 2018 when I visited on a day much like today and I swore that the chowder was the best I ever had, even the New England Clam Chowder. And as a girl from New England, I don’t say that lightly.

Truth be told I was a little scared to go back to the chowder place. I was afraid that it was just one of those ‘you had to be there’ moments back in 2018 and that it wouldn’t be nearly as good on this visit. But we ordered a chowder flight (YES A FLIGHT, 4 chowders for $20, a great deal!) and everything was as delicious as it had been 6 years ago. I was so pleased by this fact.

After enjoying our chowder, we walked around a bit popping in and out of stores before heading back to our hotel to chill. Our original plan was to find an outdoor patio to sit and have a drink but either we were bad at Googling or this sort of place just doesn’t exist in this area.

We sleuthed the internet for dinner finding a place right around the corner from our hotel which was super exciting. It looked so cute! We headed right over only to find out there was a 20 minute wait. That wasn’t too bad so we decided to walk around the block. It hadn’t been 5 minutes when they called us back. Talk about fast!

Sadly, that was the last fast thing we experienced. Once inside the Carlisle Room, everything took a dramatic turn service wise. You’ll hear all about it in the vlog but long story short: they basically forgot about us and we left without dinner.

From there it was difficult to find a place open in walking distance on a Sunday night. We went to one place, it had just closed. They recommended an Italian place around the corner where they make their own pasta.

Alas this trip was supposed to be budget friendly and $50 plates didn’t pass the mark. Especially considering I’m technicallyyyyy not supposed to have gluten even though so often I end up having it because I have little to no choice otherwise.

So we begrudgingly made our way to Cheesecake Factory as it seemed to be one of the only places willing to be open past 730 on a Sunday night in downtown Seattle. The service was better but our meal was just okay.

We went back to the hotel with our cheesecake to go and watched 90 day fiancé before calling it a night.

The next morning we visited the Hart and the Hunter for brunch, we actually almost stayed here for a hotel and we both wish we had. It was so cute! Our service, coffee, and food all made up for the subpar Sunday night we had.

From here we walked up to the Starbucks Roastery and Reserve. They have all kinds of neat events you can attend and you can see their shop that looks like a Willy Wonka Factory. You can also order food, sit at their coffee bar — yes, they make cocktails with coffee! — and you can enjoy their shop.

We didn’t stay for any of the events because it all looked like a very long commitment and we wanted to visit another area before heading back to Portland.

Once we grabbed our car back at the hotel I drove us to the Capital Hill area just so I could see it. I always hear everyone talking about it but I’ve never seen it. Once we did that we went over to the Fremont neighborhood where we were able to visit the Fremont Troll and walk around the cute area.

Our coffee from Fremont Coffee Co was incredibly delicious. We both finished it really fast and I tend to take all day to drink my coffee. We visited an amazing plant store and then we were stopping at Safeway for snacks before driving home.

The drive back was also fairly easy although the weather was on and off heavy rain. We did get to see a rainbow along the way though so I call that a win!

I hope you enjoy this first vlog. I have much to learn but I’m so excited to explore this new creative art form and can’t wait to see the magic I can make along the way.

Also, can I say I started a YouTube vlog without telling you to like, subscribe and share? ;) Leave me a comment here and let me know what you’re excited to see!

🎥 24 hours in Seattle, WA vlog

This 24 hour trip to Seattle was to give us a change of scenery from the gray Portland days. We  drove the 3 hours from Portland to Seattle on Sunday morning and returned Monday afternoon. It was a beautiful early spring day in downtown Seattle! The intent of the trip was just to have a chill time and I think we (mostly) succeeded. I have a long list of things for us to do the next time we visit so hopefully we’ll be able to do that soon. I will include links to all the Seattle places we visited down below.
